build up your classroom library with some great ag books

Last April, at the Scaling STEM Conference, I attended a session focused on the North Carolina Farm Bureau Ag in the Classroom program. A number of useful resources were shared (which I will include in another post) but I was most excited about their Book of the Month Club. For just $5.00, they will send you an agriculture-related picture book with accompanying lesson plans. I am always on the lookout for new books to share with my students and did not have many ag books in my classroom library, so signing up was a no-brainer. The titles I have received over the past year have been great, and it is such an awesome deal!

From their website:

North Carolina Farm Bureau Ag in the Classroom is an educational program that is dedicated to fostering an understanding of the importance of agriculture in North Carolina. The program strives to achieve this mission in recommending books for use as additional resources to PreK – 12th grade educators. Book of the Month is an offering for anyone looking for a valid Ag-related resource to utilize in the classroom. The total purchase of one book is $5.00 and can be purchased until copies are sold out. Each book will have accompanying activities of high-quality that can be integrated into lesson plans at various grade levels.

Here are some of the books I received this year…

And a closer look at what you will receive each month…

You will see this month’s book, Grandpa’s Garden on the BOM page, and can even download the lesson plans. Amazon sells it for $7.99. Like I said, this is an awesome deal! Scroll down for the online form you’ll use to order the book. Even easier ~ if you’d like to have the books sent to you every month, send an email to Heather Willoughby at heather.willoughby@ncfb.org and let her know you would like to sign up to automatically receive the books.

*Please note: if you live outside of North Carolina, there is an additional $2.00 charge for shipping.
